Nearly 1/2 a million civilians in the Eastern Ghouta, on the outskirts of Damascus, have been besieged by Syria regime forces since 2013, (after the Chemical Attack in August 2013, which killed nearly 1,500 most of them are children).

In the past few weeks, an escalation of bombardment and air strikes, resulted in  many casualties and large number of individuals in the rural area have died due to food and medicine shortages.

The BBC describe the situation in Eastern Ghouta as “catastrophic“, and the Guardian say, “Eastern Ghouta is another Srebrenica“.
